miss julie

“Eva Gray as Julie embodies sexual promiscuity and the injustice of social hierarchy.  Her lustful dominatrix sexuality and ‘feminist’ upbringing spells the end of male sexuality... The Pentameters Theatre in-house production is a striking adaptation of a flawed masterpiece.”

“Miss Julie is the daughter of the local landowner, a wild child who has just broken off her engagement.  David McCaffrey’s sensual John and Eva Gray’s quivering, on-the-edge Miss Julie circle each other, initially drawn together by lust and dreams of adventure... Strindberg is painting rather a bleak picture here, that in the strictures of his society dreams are doomed, only the conventional hold sway, and you can’t escape your roots.  But the ideas and longings that are beautifully expressed in this production lead me to think that perhaps he is judging the world by his own standards, and can’t himself escape his own prejudices.”
